I always think a lot about comedy, free speech, fiction, and what is “allowable” as far as content goes. To be honest, my lines are fuzzy at best. The way I see it, if I don’t like it, I won’t consume it. It’s very important to me, however, that we don’t tell people what they can’t say, or shouldn’t say. When we do that, people become afraid to create or enter the discussion, and not the assholes. The assholes will ignore you anyway and keep doing what they want, but the people with well-intentions become afraid to do the wrong thing.
I could go on forever about this, but it’s late and I’ve already said more than I intended to. But it always comes back to one thing in my mind, for me personally:
I’d rather live in a world where too much is said than one where somebody is afraid to speak.
